CPNHT is a non-profit Trust located in Calvert County. Our mission is to preserve and protect ecologically sensitive sites in Southern Maryland through land conservation, acquisition, scientific research, and environmental education. Our annual education activities include working in the public schools, presentations to adult groups and assistance to other non-profits in support of environmental research. We also support annual Master Naturalist training activities. Workshops for scouts and other groups are held along with seasonal nature walks open to the general public.

We provide a location for overnight camping for Boy Scouts at our Preserve. We are a member of the Sustainable Calvert Network where we work with our partners in advocating for land protection in Calvert County.

Research.

Research opportunities at Cove Point are abundant. Long term efforts include monitoring of plant populations in the Cove Point marsh and well as surveys on horseshoe crab activities at the Cove Point beach. We offer our Small Grants Programs to local Marylanders to support environment research and assessment projects.

The Trust continues to explore possibilities for new land acquisition. Our most recent acquisition of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Hemlock Preserve expanded our footprint in the Hellen Creek watershed. Meanwhile we continue to monitor the approximate 800 acres of conservation land around the LNG Terminal as well as continue the preservation and restoration work at Hellen Creek.

Room to grow.
